Steelers Favored
Can the upstart Houston Texans pull off an opening week upset in Pittsburgh when they take on the Steelers? Oddsmakers have made the Steelers 6.5-point favorites at home.
The Houston Texans have come a long way since their expansion year in 2002. They now have a solid quarterback leading their team in Matt Schaub, as well as an outstanding receiver in Andre Johnson and a young, talented defense. The running game is a question mark and the offensive line might need another talented body, but the Texans could make a run at the playoffs this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost a huge piece of their offensive line when Alan Faneca signed with the New York Jets in the offseason. Still, Ben Roethlisberger returns and has plenty of playmakers around him in Santiono Holes, Hines Ward and Willie Parker (assuming he’s healthy). Mike Tomlin did a great job in his first year as head coach and looks to build on the success he had last year.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Steelers a 6.5-point favorite at home. The over under total has been set at 43. Current public betting information notes that 68% of bettors favor the Steelers –6. Given the Steelers’ potential issues on offensive line, the Texans’ talented defensive front might give Pittsburgh fits. The Steelers are still the better team, but nobody should be shocked if Houston keeps the game close and pulls off an upset. We predict the Steelers over Texans 23-20.
Texans at Steelers Game Odds, Spread & Over Under Total
Texans +6.5 over 43
Steelers –6.5 under 43
