History For Big Brown?
The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, or the Triple Crown as it’s known for short, is considered the greatest accomplishment for any thoroughbred racing horse.
At the 2008 Belmont Stakes held June 7 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, Big Brown will go for horse racings’ Triple Crown and try to secure his place in history.
To put how special this would be in perspective consider that since 1919 there have only been 11 Triple Crown Winners. This Saturday Big Brown will look to join this exclusive club as the 12th member.
Oddsmakers from Online Sports Book Bodog certainly like Big Brown’s chances of achieving the 2008 Triple Crown after tabbing him a 2/7 favorite to win at the Belmont Stakes. Big Brown has already dominated all challengers thus far by winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
Big Brown’s odds of winning the Triple Crown are currently listed at –350 however those could certainly go higher before post time. “That is a pretty solid endorsement of his chances.” said Mike Seaton of sports information site TheSpread.com. “The stats show how hard it is to win the Triple Crown, for the odds to be that high this horse really has people thinking he is something special.” Said Seaton.

Big Brown is considered almost a shoe-in to achieve the Triple Crown, but after looking at past Triple Crown winners, it’s apparent Big Brown has a daunting task in front of him. The last horse to achieve the Triple Crown was 30 years ago when Affirmed took home the honors in 1978.

1941 Whirlaway
1943 Count Fleet

Big Brown’s best competition to ruin his Triple Crown run is Casino Drive, who has 9/2 odds to win at the Belmont, and Denis Of Cork at 10/1. Some even believe that Behindatthebar at 25/1 odds has a decent shot to pull off the upset after being scratched from the Preakness with a bruised left foot.
