Bettors love California Chrome
ELMONT, NY (The Spread) – California Chrome is the clear favorite to win the 2014 Belmont Stakes this weekend and oddsmakers are taking heavy action on the colt to win the Triple Crown.
California Chrome continues to be the talk of the horse racing world this year after winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes over the past month and a half. His victory in the Preakness was his sixth in a row as he also has wins at the Santa Anita Derby, the San Felipe Stakes, the California Cup Derby and the King Glorious Stakes. He’ll also be allowed to where nasal strips this weekend, which is huge seeing as how he started winning as soon as his racing team started to use the strips.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, California Chrome is a 1/1 favorite to win the Belmont while Ride On Curlin has the next-best odds at 6/1. Wicked Strong, meanwhile, is 7/1 to win while Tonalist is 13/2 and Commanding Curve is 9/1. Some of the long shots include Samraat at 28/1, General A Rod at 28/1, and Medal Count at 20/1.
Despite the lack of value, oddsmakers continue to take bets on California Chrome.
“Our bettors seem to have faith that California Chrome will win the Triple Crown, as he’s taken more money than any other horse despite his short odds,” says Bovada.lv Sportsbook Manager Kevin Bradley. “This year’s Belmont Stakes we estimate will take at least double last year’s handle due to the excitement surrounding the Triple Crown possibility and it will be our second single busiest day of the year aside from the Super Bowl.”
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will take place at 6:30PM ET on Saturday, June 7.
