Academy Awards Prediction: Best Actress
Brie Larson is the hands-down favorite to win an Oscar for Best Actress at tonight’s 88th Academy Awards. But will she take home the honor?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Larson is a 1/50 favorite to win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Room. Saoirse Ronan has the next-best odds at 9/1 for her role in Brooklyn, while Cate Blanchett is 20/1 for Carol, Jennifer Lawrence is 33/1 for Joy, and Charlotte Rampling is 40/1 for 45 Years.
Bettors will have to weigh the risk of Larson losing against winning such a small reward. But Larson took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress at this year’s Golden Globes and it’s highly likely that she’ll win the Oscar for the same category at tonight’s 88th Academy Awards (8:00PM ET).
Ronan does have better value at 9/1 and unlike Larson, has already been nominated for an Oscar (2008 for Atonement). But Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated five times for an Academy Award and hasn’t won (although his sixth nominee is likely a charm, as he’s favored heavily to win the Oscar for Best Actor after starring in The Revenant), so that means very little.
Larson should cash tonight as the favorite.
