Fellowship Preakness Stakes Odds
With the 2016 Preakness Stakes taking place on Saturday, here’s a look at Fellowship, who did not run in the Kentucky Derby.
What are Fellowship’s current odds to win the Preakness?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Fellowship is currently a long shot to win this Saturday at 33/1 odds. He has the same odds as Uncle Lino, Awesome Speed, and Lani, and better odds than only one other horse: Laoban, who has the longest odds to win the Preakness at 40/1. For comparison, Nyquist is -125 and he’s the favorite after winning the Kentucky Derby, while Exaggerator has the next-best odds at 5/1.
Who comprises Fellowship’s racing team?
That would be owner Jacks or Better Farm, trainer Mark Casse, and jockey Jose Lezcano. Lezcano’s best finish in a United States Triple Crown race was second, which came in 2010 aboard Ice Box. He also finished in the top 10 among North American jockeys by purse earnings in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015. He has three Breeders’ Cup victories.
How much has Fellowship earned in his career?
He’s earned $574,715 in his career, and $47,893 per start. In 12 career starts, Fellowship has two wins, three second-place showings and three third-place finishes. His two victories came in his first career race by on May 7 of 2015 in a MSW, and on October 3 of last year when he won the Florida Sire In Reality.
Could Fellowship be a sleeper on Saturday?
It’s unlikely. He’s never finished higher than third in a graded stakes race and is coming off a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile in his final prep for the Preakness. The only positive for Fellowship is that he’s won at distances from 4 ½ furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, finishing first, second or third at five different distances. But he’s finished behind fellow Triple Crown contenders Nyquist, Mohaymen and even Awesome Speed in various races since the start of the year. Fellowship is long on experience but short on wins.
