Term of Art vs. Multiplier Prediction
Will Term of Art edge out Multiplier in this evening’s Preakness Stakes or will Multiplier finish higher at Pimlico Race Course?
The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Multiplier is -230 on the money line to finish higher than Term of Art, who is the underdog in this prop bet at +190.
Term of Art Snapshot
Term of Art did not run in the Kentucky Derby but he enters the Preakness Stakes with loads of experience. In nine career starts, Term of Art has two wins, one second, and two thirds. He showed some promise as a 2-year-old in 2016, winning two of five starts with one second and one third, plus scored a Grade 3 win in the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar in late November. That said, in his four starts this year, he has finished a combined 38 1/4 lengths behind the winner. A deep closer, it’s likely to take a complete meltdown by the top contenders for Term of Art to finish in the money.
Multiplier Snapshot
Lightly-run Multiplier is coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby on April 22. In his only other start, he finished third at a Maiden Special Weight back in January. In his victory at the Illinois Derby, Multiplier showed an impressive closing kick. The biggest issue with Multiplier is that he will be taking a huge step up in competition when he runs in the Preakness Stakes today. At least he’ll have an experienced rider in jockey Joel Rosario, who enters his fifth Preakness with two seconds, one third and one fourth to show in his prior starts.
Preakness Stakes Prediction
Both of these horses are stepping up in competition but Multiplier should still edge out Term of Art despite the similarities in the two contenders. Multiplier won the Illinis Derby at Hawthorne Race Course, edging out Hedge Fund late to win by a head for his second-straight victory. Term of Art, meanwhile, has placed just once (third in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes) in his last four starts. Multiplier is simply more talented.
