Eyeing the Western Conference Top Spot
Real Salt Lake have the opportunity to steal the MLS Western Conference 1st placed position from LAFC this weekend as they welcome a struggling Columbus Crew to the Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
Following a successful outing in their previous MLS meeting, Real Salt Lake moved within two points of the division leaders Los Angeles FC. Still, their Saturday evening visitors are struggling in the Eastern Conference to avoid a rock bottom positioning.
Despite going on a five-game winless streak this season, RSL has fought through thick and thin to push themselves to the top of the league and a 1-0 success over the division’s leaders earlier this term gave Pablo Mastroeni’s men a realization that winning the MLS Cup is highly achievable.
Whilst they’ll need LAFC to drop some points, Real Salt Lake can move into the number one spot with another successful home outing against Columbus Crew and given their opponent’s current form, obtaining three points shouldn’t be an arduous task.
Lacklustre Season in Columbus
After winning two and drawing two of their first four games of the MLS schedule, Columbus Crew’s trajectory for the 2022 MLS season was trending in a positive direction. However, Calen Porter’s squad failed to produce more than six points in the following eight games.
The Crew broke their bad luck at the end of May with an away victory over Atlanta United, and whilst they’re low in the MLS Western Conference, another three points will put them into a playoff position.

The betting odds favor the home side, and given their impressive record on home turf this season; I’m surprised at the incredible value we’re receiving on the Real Salt Lake moneyline.
The home side are going from strength to strength whilst Columbus Crew cannot entirely be trusted. Trust Real Salt Lake and the robust home form they’ve protected this term, and don’t overthink the betting position because a simple moneyline play is all we need.
