The surging Indianapolis Colts try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they take on the inconsistent, but dangerous San Diego Chargers this Sunday night.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Chargers a –2.5 point spread favorite. The over/under for this game has been set at 49.5 total points.
San Diego is 13-5-1 against the spread in its last 19 games and 9-2 against the spread in its last 11 games at home. They’re also 4-1 against the spread in their last five games when playing Indianapolis, while the Colts are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games.
The Colts may be the hotter team, but without safety Bob Sanders (knee injury), they’re susceptible to the run. LaDainian Tomlinson has been awfully quiet this year, but a breakout game could be in store if Sanders is unable to play.
The stats are pretty even in this matchup, but the point spread might tell the best story. It’s strange that San Diego is a 3-point favorite considering Indy is the hotter team and the Chargers continue to slip further behind Denver in the AFC West. Normally when the point spread looks off, it’s usually dead on. And the Chargers usually step up to the plate on national television, especially when they play at Qualcomm Stadium. We also like the over in this matchup.
