Uruguay’s Suarez doubtful for Jamaica match
In a contest of surprisingly little consequence, Uruguay takes on Jamaica in tonight’s Group C finale.
With neither country in a position to advance to the Centenario’s quarterfinals, handicappers are trying to identify the crew with a bit more motivation. Online sports book Bovada.lv currently gives Uruguay odds of -210 to salvage something from the proceedings. Jamaica, on the other hand, represents a +550 underdog. The over/under goal figure sits at three.
In the case of El Celeste, this has been a particularly disappointing ride. Between Luis Suarez’s shaky hamstring and Paris Saint-Germain standout Edinson Cavani’s no-show, coach Oscar Tabarez finds himself at wit’s end. Suarez likely won’t hit the pitch at 10 p.m. ET either. FC Barcelona’s featured attacker last played on May 22.
As for the Reggae Boyz, they danced into the Copa America festivities as one of the feel-good stories. Winfried Schafer’s squad still searches for its first goal of the tourney, though, having suffered shutout losses to Venezuela and Mexico. Will Rodolph Austin and the rest of the gang finally break through in a dead rubber? Considering Uruguay’s fragile mental state, we believe so.
