Utah’s main acquisition this offseason was adding center Kosta Koufos via the NBA draft, but that wasn’t its biggest move. Exercising contract options on Paul Millsap and Ronnie Brewer, as well as signing Deron Williams to a long-term deal was.
2008-2009 Season Outlook:
The Jazz have a very talented core in Williams, Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur and Andrei Kirilenko. But is it enough to get them over the hump? There’s no doubt that this team will make the postseason, but what happens when they run into the Los Angeles Lakers or New Orleans Hornets in the Western Conference Finals? Or an experienced San Antonio Spurs team before that?
Utah has more than enough talent and they’re certainly in the top 10 of the NBA’s elite, if not No. 5. But in order for Jerry Sloan’s team to take the next step, they’ll need more than Williams and Boozer to step up.
