Wake Forest did some great things in 2007, but oddsmakers have made the Demon Deacons a 100/1 long shot to win the 2009 BCS National Championship.
Bet Wake Forest’s 2009 BCS Championship Futures Odds
Head coach Jim Grobe gets his starting quarterback Riley Skinner back for another season. Skinner through for 2,204 yards last year and will get running back Josh Adams back in the backfield with him. Safety Chip Vaughn (105 tackles), defensive tackle Boo Robinson (four sacks) and cornerback Alphonso Smith (eight interceptions) all return to the Wake Forest defense.
All the major online sports books agree that the Demon Deacons are long shots this season. Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog and SBG Global have made Wake Forest a 100/1 long shot to win the BCS National Championship this season, while Sportsbook.com lists them at 150/1.
The Demon Deacons are going to have a tough time competing this year for a national title, but that doesn’t mean they’re not a solid value. Getting Skinner and Adams back were huge and Wake returns nine starters on defense, including all four starters in the secondary. With that many returning players and a solid coach in Grobe, who knows what the Demon Deacons can accomplish in 2008.
