DiCaprio has been nominated for five previous Oscar awards, including three for best actor, coming up short each time. He was first nominated for Best Actor in 2005 for The Aviator and against in 2007 for Blood Diamond. His last nomination came in 2014 for The Wolf of Wall Street. This year, DiCaprio is again nominated for Best Actor, this time for The Revenant.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, DiCaprio is the clear favorite to take home the award this year, as he has been given a money line of -2000 to win. The next closest odds are Michael Fassbender, who has a money line of +900 for his role as Steve Jobs in the biopic Steve Jobs.

DiCaprio already took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. It was his second award in this category, as he also won in 2005 for The Aviator. He also won a Golden Globe for The Wolf of Wall Street, but that was for Musical or Comedy. DiCaprio has certainly had a tremendous film career, one worthy of an Oscar. In The Revenant, DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a man left for dead by fellow hunters in the time of 1823. The movie displays his efforts to find the people responsible for leaving him and taking his son in the process. DiCaprio has earned high praise for his role in the film and the fact he has yet to win an Oscar may improve his ability to win this year. There could be a sympathetic aspect to the vote.
