Cilic vs. Federer Prediction
Will it be Marian Cilic or Roger Federer that walks home with the 2017 Wimbledon Championship on Sunday? Here’s our prediction for the men’s final.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Federer is listed as the clear favorite, as he is getting odds of -550 to win. Cilic is listed with a money line of +420 to prevail. These two will meet in the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday at 9AM ET from the All England Tennis Club in London, England. The match will air live on ESPN.
No. 3 Roger Federer is looking to claim his eighth Wimbledon championship on Sunday with a win. He won the title from 2003-07, 2009 and 2012. He also has finished runner-up on three other occasions. Federer went 2013-16 without claiming a grand slam title, but picked up the 2017 Australian Open and has been looking as good as he has in years. He beat both Milos Raonic and Tomas Berdych in straight sets in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
No. 7 Marian Cilic is looking to claim his first Wimbledon championship and only his second grand-slam title of his career. Cilic hasn’t gotten past the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in his past 10 attempts, so this will be his first Wimbledon final as well. His road to the final has been a little rockier. He went five sets with Gilles Muller in the quarterfinals and four sets with Sam Querrey in the semifinals.
Federer seems like the easy pick. He has had a pretty easy time of things this week and has such a large experience edge over Cilic. You have to give credit to Cilic, he has managed to drop the first set in his last two matches and still rally to win. However, Federer has been tough for Cilic to beat. He is just 1-6 against the Swiss Superman in seven all-time meetings. Their last encounter was in the 2016 Wimbledon quarters. Cilic went up two sets, but lost in five. I think Federer’s experience and savvy will be too much. Cilic is bound to have some nerves in his first Wimbledon final.
