Women’s Slalom Predictions
Which skier will be fastest on the slopes and claim the gold medal in Women’s Slalom when the finals take place early tomorrow?
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Mikaela Shiffrin is the clear favorite, as she has -350 odds. Four other skiers are listed with +1000 odds, including Petra Vlhova, Frida Hansdotter, Wendy Holdener and Estelle Alphand.
Shiffrin is an American that is looking to claim her second straight gold medal in the Olympics. After winning gold in 2014 she also claimed a world championship in 2015 and 2017. She has not been beaten in this event in the world stage winning all three world championships and her only Olympics appearance. In the 2017 World Championships, she won by more than a full second over Holdener.
Switzerland’s Holdener was second at last year’s world championships while Sweden’s Hansdotter came in third place. Both women are looking to claim their first Olympic medal. Holdener has been a world champion in the combined, but can’t get past Shiffrin in the slalom. Hansdotter has yet to claim a world championship of any kind.
This seems to be somewhat of a victory lap for Shiffrin, who has dominated this event for years and hasn’t found her equal on the global stage. The odds are heavily in her favor. While there always can be a fall or accident to mess things up, you can’t assume the worst from one of the best to ever do it.
