Women’s 50m Freestyle Pick
Which woman will be the fastest sprinter in the pool today as the finals of the Women’s 50-meter Freestyle takes place at the Rio Summer Olympics?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Cate Campbell is listed as the favorite, as she has +150 odds. Other short odds to win are Pernille Blume (+225) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (+450). The women’s 50 freestyle is scheduled to take place today at 9:03PM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Blume had the fastest time in the semifinals, at 24.28, while Campbell came in with a time of 24.32 seconds. Campbell, the Australian, has already won gold in the 4×100 freestyle relay and she was the bronze medal winner at the 2008 Olympics in the 50. Blume competes for Denmark and she has yet to secure an Olympic medal. She had had a lot of global success in relay events.
One person to keep an eye out for is Simone Manuel of the United States. Manuel is coming off her surprising gold-medal win in the 100 freestyle just a few days ago. She posted a 24.44 in the semifinals to qualify sixth, but she’s proven to be a strong finisher. She set a new US record in the 100 and has a top time in the 50 of 24.33.
Manuel may be worth considering since she has +2000 odds currently listed. In a swim like the 50, the field will be separated by just tenths of a second. It’s a quick sprint to the wall and anyone can win. Blume has been the most consistent, even though individual swimming hasn’t always been her strong point. I think she has what it takes to get the win today and edge out the field.
