According to oddsmakers, Germany is a -196 favorite to win on the moneyline. Sweden is a +550 underdog, while a draw bet is set at +325. The total sits at 2.5 goals.
Germany frustrated in defeat
Despite dominating much of the action Sunday in its Group F opener against Mexico, the 2014 World Cup champions in Germany were unable to get anything to hit the back of the net in a 1-0 loss. The game’s lone goal was scored in the 35th minute by Hirving Lozano. Germany held 61 percent of the possession and had a whopping 25 shots (nine on goal), while also generating 10 corner kicks. Somehow, it all still led to being shut out.
Sweden looks sharp in win
It was a strong defensive effort by Sweden in a 1-0 victory over South Korea to put it tied atop the Group F table. Sweden allowed only five shots and none were on goal. Sweden had 15 shots (five on goal) of its own, but did not break through in the scoring column until a penalty kick made by Andreas Granqvist in the 65th minute. Sweden had six corner kicks in the match and committed 20 fouls, while South Korea was assessed 23 fouls.
Prediction:
Germany can’t rest on its laurels for this one and I don’t expect that to happen. Despite some injury concerns, expect the Germans to be on its game and secure the win. A loss would eliminate Germany entirely from advancing, while a draw would leave only a small amount of hope. Germany will play with that kind of desperation.
