Could JPP miss start of season?
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (The Spread) – There are growing concerns that Giants’ defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul could miss the start of the season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Pierre-Paul “could” miss training camp and the start of the NFL season after he injured his hand in an accident involving fireworks over the weekend. That said, the Giants are still awaiting JPP’s medical information so his future playing status remains uncertain.
Earlier on Monday NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants had pulled a long-term offer to Pierre-Paul after reports emerged that he had injured his hand. He’s currently unsigned but stands to make $14.8 million this season after the team slapped him with its franchise tag.
The Giants are currently 28/1 to win the 2016 Super Bowl according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv. Usually a team’s odds don’t change unless a quarterback suffers a serious injury, although that’s not to suggest that losing Pierre-Paul would be minor. The defense remains a question mark in New York and JPP is being counted on to provide top production. Not having his presence would be a significant blow to the Giants’ Super Bowl hopes.
