Dodgers’ Maeda solid in loss to Rockies in last start
Kenta Maeda allowed three runs — two earned — over seven innings with nine strikeouts in a loss to the Rockies on Saturday. Maeda allowed a solo homer to Ian Desmond, but outside of that shot, the right-hander was not hit hard; scattering five hits with two walks to go along with the nine punchouts. It drops his ERA on the season to 3.36, and he’s fanned 89 hitters in just 75 innings. All things considered, Maeda has been excellent in the 2018 campaign. He’s starting again on Friday against the Angels.
Angels’ Pena throws 5 1/3 scoreless innings vs. Orioles
Felix Pena rattled off 5 1/3 shutout innings against the Orioles and earned his first win of the season on Friday. He registered five strikeouts against one walk and five base hits while falling two outs shy of a quality start. He didn’t have much trouble against the weak Orioles lineup. Pena has been a reliever throughout his career but the Angels are giving him a crack as a starter following multiple injuries to their starting rotation. He is 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA through three starts and two relief appearances this year. He has 19 strikeouts and five walks in 17 innings pitched.
