Yankees vs. Mariners Pick
Can the Seattle Mariners salvage a split with the New York Yankees when the two conclude their weekend series today at 4:10PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Seattle is the slight favorite at home, as the Mariners are getting odds of -115 to win, while the Yankees are listed with a money line of -105 to win. The over/under total for the game has been set at 9.5 runs.

The pitching matchup today features Caleb Smith (0-1, 6.00 ERA) on the mound for the Yankees to face Yovani Gallardo (4-7, 5.59) of the Mariners. Smith has appeared in just one game for the Yankees, a 3-inning relief appearance where he allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Gallardo has been making some relief appearances lately as well. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 11.1 innings of work. This year, Gallardo has 65 strikeouts with 37 walks and a 1.48 WHIP.
The Yankees were able to win the first two games in this weekend series, but the Mariners bounced back on Saturday with a 6-5 win in 10 innings. Seattle is now 49-50 on the season and 28-24 at home. New York is now 50-46 overall and 24-29 on the road.
Seattle found a way to win on Saturday in 10 innings. Nelson Cruz had the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning to life the Mariners to the win. Cruz joined Ben Gamel, Robinson Cano and Mitch Haniger as Mariners with two hits on Saturday. Cano also had his 19th home run of the season. Despite losing, Aaron Judge managed another home run for the Yankees, his 32nd of the season.
Both teams really tapped into the bullpens on Saturday. The Mariners used seven arms while the Yankees used five. That will play a big role today, as both starters are not accustomed to pitching for long stints. Smith has little experience while Gallardo has settled in nicely to a relief role. Despite that, Gallardo does have starting experience and I think he is better fit to last longer into this game than Smith. I give the edge to the Mariners, just like the oddsmakers.
