Mets’ Oswalt allows three runs in six innings vs. Marlins
Corey Oswalt let in three runs in six innings and did not factor into the decision as the Mets lost to the Marlins in extra innings on Saturday. His teammates staked him to a 3-0 lead but he couldn’t hold on to it. He allowed a two-run single to Martin Prado in the fourth inning and an RBI-knock to J.T. Realmuto in the fifth. Oswalt struck out three, walked one and yielded six hits total in the quality start. He has bounced up and down between the majors and minors several times this year. He owns a 1-2 record with a 5.03 ERA and nice 1.07 WHIP in seven starts and one relief appearance. He has 26 strikeouts and nine walks in 39 1/3 innings.
Phillies’ Suarez will start for Phillies in Game 1 on Thursday
Ranger Suarez will start one of the doubleheader games against the Mets on Thursday. Suarez will be recalled to make the start, and Zach Eflin will act as the 26th man to start the other game. Suarez made his big-league debut on July 26 allowing four runs over five innings against the Reds in a victory. He’s pitched well in the minors this year with a 2.89 ERA over 100 innings with Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
