Velasquez (12-1) had already recorded a first-round win over Silva (18-5) a year ago, but on Saturday, he managed to do it in under 90 seconds, landing a big right hand that floored Silva. From there, the champion jumped on the challenger and hit a flurry of strikes before the referee stopped the fight. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Velasquez had odds of -750 to retain his title, which means a wager of $750 on him to win will pay out an additional $100.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card saw former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (16-2) pick up a KO win over Mark Hunt (9-8) in the third round of a classic battle. Both men exchanged some serious leather throughout the fight, with dos Santos landing some impressive overhand punches and Hunt throwing some looping strikes of his own. In the third, dos Santos caught Hunt with a spinning wheel kick and then followed it up with a pinpoint strike on the ground that knocked Hunt out cold. According to oddsmakers, dos Santos had odds of -450 to win this bout, which means a wager of $450 on dos Santos to win will pay out an additional $100.
