UFC 162 will take place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a battle for the UFC Middleweight Championship with Anderson Silva (33-4) defending his title against Chris Weidman (9-0). According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Silva is the favorite to retain his title, as he has a money line of -240 to win, while Weidman has been given a money line of +190 to win. Silva has been the UFC 185-pound champion since October of 2006. He has won 17 straight bouts entering this contest and has established himself as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. His striking is on another level in terms of speed and power, and he has shown some solid ground defense when fighting off his back. Weidman is believed to be the toughest opponent Silva has had in some time, as he has a combination of wrestling and striking that could pose a lot of problems for the champion. Weidman has been impressive in his five fights in the UFC, but this is his greatest challenge, and there is a lot of hype on him to be the one to defeat Silva. The longer the fight goes, the more it favors Weidman.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a featherweight clash between Frankie Edgar (15-4-1) and Charles Oliveira (16-3). According to oddsmakers, Edgar is the favorite to win this bout, as he has odds of -550, while Oliveira has a money line of +375 to win this contest. Edgar is a former lightweight champion and is riding a three-fight losing streak, all in title fights. This is Edgar’s first three-round fight since December of 2009, which could be an issue since he is a bit of a slow starter. Oliveira is coming off a KO loss in his last bout, but he is considered one of the best submission fighters in the 145-pound division. Oliveira has been improving on his striking as well, but he may not have the hand speed and footwork that Edgar has.
