UFC 163 will take place from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a battle for the UFC Featherweight Championship with Jose Aldo (22-1) defending his title against Chan Sung Jung (13-3), also known as The Korean Zombie. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Aldo is the clear favorite to win this bout, as he has odds of -750 to win, while Jung has been given a money line of +475 to win. Aldo has been the WEC/UFC Featherweight Champion since 2009 and he is currently on a 15-fight win streak. His striking is on par with anyone in any division and his powerful leg kicks have made the strongest fighters look weak. Jung is 3-0 in the UFC with all three wins coming by finish. Jung is an aggressive fighter that can seemingly absorb a lot of punishment, which he will need to do in order to win this fight. Jung has shown great improvement in his skills over the last few years and his grappling ability could cause problems for Aldo if the fight gets to the ground. Aldo has struggled in recent history with fatiguing as fights go into the later rounds, which could open the door for Jung to pull off the upset if he is able to survive the early storm.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a light heavyweight collision between Lyoto Machida (19-3) and Phil Davis (11-1). According to oddsmakers, Machida is the favorite in this fight, as he has odds of -350 to win, while Davis has a money line of +265 to win. Machida is a former UFC champion and is riding a two-fight win streak. His karate-style of striking has caused a lot of problems for opponents and he is deceivingly strong with his grappling. Davis has won his last two bouts, but he is rather one dimensional, relying on his college wrestling background to control fights. Davis doesn’t stand much chance competing in a striking battle with Machida, and he may have trouble getting the fight to the ground.
