UFC 180 will take place from the Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico with the main card bouts airing live on PPV at 10PM ET.
The main event of Saturday’s card is a bout for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship with Fabricio Werdum (18-5-1) taking on Mark Hunt (10-8-1). According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Werdum is the clear favorite, as he is getting odds of -450 to win, while Hunt has been given odds of +325 to prevail. This fight was originally scheduled to be Werdum against champion Cain Velasquez, but Velasquez suffered an injury that allowed Hunt to step in on short notice. Werdum has won four straight entering this fight and has shown improved striking to go with his black belt in jiu-jitsu. Hunt is just 1-1-1 in his last three, but he has big KO power and is coming off a knockout of Roy Nelson in his last fight. The longer this fight goes, the more it should favor Werdum. Though Werdum has improved his striking, it would be a poor choice for him to slug it out with Hunt, who can take a lot of punishment, but only needs one punch to KO his opponent.
The co-main event of Saturday’s card is a welterweight battle between Jake Ellenberger (29-8) and Kelvin Gastelum (9-0). Oddsmakers have Gastelum favored to win, as he is getting odds of -225 to prevail, while Ellenberger has been given a money line of +175 to win. Gastelum has yet to lose and is 4-0 in the UFC. Three of his wins have come by decision and he is taking a big step up in talent for this fight. Ellenberger has lost his last two to two of the top three fighters in the division. He has struggled against the top-level opponents but has quickly disposed of the mid-level fighters. He has big punching power and explosiveness, but Gastelum has the ability to grind out fights. If Ellenberger is aggressive, he can score the upset.
