These two have been scheduled to meet for the title on three different occasions, but the bout has had to be postponed due to injuries. Weidman (12-0) is the champion and he is undefeated. He is looking to defend his title for the third time. He last fought in July of 2014, beating Lyoto Machida in a five-round decision. Belfort (24-10) is a former UFC light heavyweight champion that has won his last five fights as a middle weight, scoring a first round KO or submission in four of those five wins. His last fight was in November of 2013, in a first-round KO over Dan Henderson.

According to the latest oddsmakers, Weidman is the clear favorite to retain his championship, as he has odds of -500 to win, while Belfort comes in with a money line of +350 to prevail. This fight will be the co-main event of UFC 187 this Saturday at 10PM ET. The event takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and airs live on PPV.

This fight has many interesting angles. First, this is the first bout for Belfort since stopping testosterone replacement therapy. One has to wonder what kind of conditioning and power Belfort will have with TRT assistance. The other aspect is that Belfort has, or at least has had, one-punch or one-kick KO power. Weidman has some solid striking as well, but not quite the same power as Belfort. Belfort has been able to score one of his big strikes on his opponents early, so Weidman will need to be cautious in the beginning. If the fight goes more than a few rounds or if Weidman can really make Belfort work early, the challenger is likely to run out of gas and give Weidman an easy victory.
