Wilder vs. Fury Prediction
After weeks of hype and talk, it is time for Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to finally collide for the heavyweight championship. Here’s our take on tonight’s big bout.
Fury and Wilder will be competing for the WBC heavyweight championship that is currently held by Wilder. According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, Wilder is favored to win this bout, as he is getting odds of -160to win. Fury is listed with a money line of +140 to prevail. Saturday’s bout will air live on PPV, starting at 8PM ET, and be held from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Tyson Fury
Fury is 27-0 with 19 KO’s and is fighting out of Manchester, England. Fury stands just a bit taller than Wilder, at 6-8 and three quarters while Wilder is 6-7. He is an orthodox fight. A former WBA (Unified), WBO and IBO heavyweight champ, he relinquished the belts back in October of 2016 due to a doping investigation. He has fought twice this year, defeating Sefer Seferi in four rounds in June. He then defeated Francesco Pianeta by 10-pround decision in August.
Deontay Wilder
Wilder is the champ and has a 40-0 record with 39 knockouts. The fighter from Tuscaloosa also fights orthodox. He last fought in March, when he scored a 10th-round KO of Luis Ortiz. His four fights prior to that ended before the 10th round as well, including a first-round KO of Bermane Stiverne last November. Wilder has big power that carries late into fights as well.
Prediction
Fury has a size edge on Wilder, which could play a factor, but Wilder seems to pack more of a punch. Fury has gone into deeper waters more than Wilder, but given his extra size, that could be an issue for him in this fight. As long as Wilder doesn’t exhaust himself trying to get an early KO, he should be fine to fight effectively in the later rounds. I think there are more ways for Wilder to win, as he has the better power and moves better than Fury. I think Wilder will avoid the reach early and then start to pepper Fury’s body to test his conditioning. As Fury weakens and tires, look for Wilder to land a finishing barrage in the mid-to-late rounds.
Boxing Prediction: Deontay Wilder -160
