GGG vs. Canelo Prediction
It’s finally time for the anticipated rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez tonight. Which boxer will come away with the victory in this middleweight bout?
According to the latest oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, Golovkin is the favorite, as he is listed with -155 odds to win. Alvarez is listed with a money line of +135 to win. This bout is for the vacant The Ring and lineal middleweight championships while GGG is defending his WBA (Super), WBC and IBO middleweight titles. This is the main event of a PPV boxing card that begins on PPV at 8PM ET.
Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KO) has just one non-victory on his record and that is the draw with Alvarez on Sept. 16 of last year. Many felt GGG had won the fight and was spurned by questionable judging. He followed up the draw with a second-round KO of Vanes Martirosyan in May. GGG has the great combination of speed and power and hasn’t met his match yet. He hasn’t had issues with going the distance either, even though he has only done it five times in 39 fights.
Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KO) is coming off a suspension over a banned substance in March. He hasn’t fought since the draw with Golovkin. Many thought he was out-classed in the first fight and now has the suspension on his shoulders as well. Alvarez hasn’t had a KO finish in two years, but he does have the more impressive fight history. A counter-puncher, Alvarez will look to work the body and hope for an opening from GGG.
The first fight seemed pretty obvious to me and I don’t see while Alvarez will be any better this time around. Along with the suspension, he also had minor surgery and just seems to be moving past his prime. GGG was faster and stronger in the first bout and should be faster and stronger tonight. I think the odds are much closer than they should be and Golovkin should put things to rest tonight unless the judges want a third bout.
BOXING PREDICTION: Gennady Golovkin -155
