Gastelum (10-0) is an unbeaten fighter that is in this position for the first time in his career. He has beaten some very solid opponents, but Woodley is arguably the toughest opponent he has faced yet. Woodley (14-3) has won three of his last four fights, but he is just on the outside of the “elite” status in the division. Woodley is somewhat of a gate keeper in the division. This fight will be about whether Gastelum is ready for a title shot or not.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Gastelum is the slight favorite in this bout, as he is getting odds of -125 to win, while Woodley has been given a money line of -105 to prevail. These two will meet in the co-main event of UFC 183 this Saturday night at 10PM ET on PPV.
Woodley is a very strong fighter that packs a lot of power in his striking. He usually starts very fast and his wins tend to come in the first round. The three losses in his career have been from 15 minutes of fighting or more, because he tends to tire later in the fight from carrying such a heavy upper body. Gastelum is a bit of a grinder. He has some solid striking, but doesn’t have the power of Woodley. He should have an advantage in grappling skill, but may not have the strength to get Woodley to the ground early in the fight, which could impact the overall outcome if it goes to a decision.
