Machida (22-6) is former UFC Light Heavyweight champion and he competed for the middleweight title in the last year as well. He is just 1-2 in his last three fights, losing to the top two fighters at 185 pounds right now, so he needs a win to stay in the mix and not get lost in the shuffle. Romero (9-1) is a rising star despite being 38. He is 5-0 in his UFC career with four wins by knockout. This will be the biggest fight he has had yet, but a win will propel him right to the top.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Machida is favored in this fight, as he comes in with a money line of -200 to win, while Romero has odds of +160 to prevail. This fight is the main event of UFC Fight Night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The main card airs live on Fox Sports 1 this Saturday at 10PM ET.
Machida is one of the most interesting fighters in the UFC. He uses a karate-style of fighting to confuse his opponents. His hand and foot speed is up there with anyone and he uses counter striking to beat his opponent to the punch. Romero is a big body with big power. If he lands clean on Machida, he is likely to score the KO, but he won’t have the same hand speed and his big frame will be tough to carry as the fight goes on.
