Mayweather vs. McGregor Predictions: Will the fight go 6 rounds? 8/26/17

Mayweather/McGregor to go 6 Rounds?

Will the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor boxing match see a spectacular finish, or will it be a fight that doesn’t meet the hype?

According to latest oddsmakers, Mayweather Jr. is the favorite in this bout, as he is getting odds of -375 to win. McGregor is listed with a money line of +285 to prevail. When it comes to fight length, the over/under with the closest to even odds is listed at 5.5 rounds. The over is listed at -200, while the under is set at +140. These two will meet tonight from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on PPV and begins at 9PM ET.

Bet on Mayweather vs. McGregor

There are some reasons to like the under in this prop bet. When it comes to McGregor, the only way he can win is by knockout. I just can’t see a first-time pro boxer out-pointing Floyd Mayweather Jr. for 12 rounds and winning on the scorecards. McGregor has to go for the kill, especially early. McGregor is going to have his greatest speed and power in the first few rounds, so he will have to be aggressive.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t known for finishing opponents. He has 23 decision wins in his 49-fight career. He also has gone to the scorecards in his last seven bouts. Money is going to have the advantage in speed here and he can start with his usual defensive style, but as the fight goes on, McGregor could tire. He is used to 15-to-25 minute fights. While those fights are at a faster pace, he’s not eating jabs the entire time either. As Conor’s hands get heavy and his feet get slower, Mayweather is going to be able to really pick him apart and create damage. Five rounds in boxing is 20 minutes. Once Floyd gets rolling, it will be hard for McGregor to stay standing.

Mayweather certainly isn’t a humble man, but I would think he has to know the importance of this bout for the sport of boxing, a sport that made him millions upon millions. Winning by decision doesn’t prove a point and only strengthens McGregor in many ways. Mayweather needs to finish him and do it in style. To do that, he needs to be a little more aggressive and I think that will lead to a quicker finish. After a couple of rounds, McGregor should really be exposed for his lack of experience. Look for a KO or stoppage somewhere between rounds 3-to-5.

MAYWEATHER VS. MCGREGOR PREDICTION: UNDER 5.5 ROUNDS (+140)
