Saturday’s WBO Welterweight Championship was supposed to settle the score between these two, but the fight from the MGM Grand seemed to raise even more questions.
Neither man was knocked down but both had their high moments. There were a number of close rounds and some had Marquez winning as the bout went into the later rounds. Still, Pacquiao finished with a flurry, but it wasn’t convincing enough to win on all three scorecards. One judge had the fight 115-113 Pacquiao while another had it 116-112 for the champ. The final judge had it as a 114-114 draw.
The majority decision is still a win for Pacquiao and he had odds of -800 to win Saturday’s bout, that means a wager of $800 will pay out an additional $100.
The fight could set up a mega-fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but the crowd booed Pacquiao afterwards, indicating they felt that perhaps he didn’t win. Perhaps Pacquiao vs. Marquez IV may have to happen.
