Dos Anjos (25-7) is the current UFC lightweight champion (155 pounds) and McGregor (19-2) is the current UFC featherweight champion (145 pounds). Both are coming off first-round KO wins over the last six weeks and McGregor has emerged as a UFC superstar, looking to earn a belt in two different divisions. The UFC brass have expressed interest in the fight and there have been rumors that the two will meet at UFC 197 on March 5, but nothing has been made official by the organization.
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, Dos Anjos is listed as the slight favorite in this bout, as he has been given odds of -130 to win, while McGregor is currently listed at +100 to win the second title.
McGregor is coming off a 13-second KO win over Jose Aldo to improve to 7-0 in the UFC. He has quickly emerged as the UFC’s biggest star and the organization wants to push him for big fights. Dos Anjos is on a 5-fight win streak and has shown tremendous power in his striking to go along with a black belt in jiu-jitsu. McGregor is a very skilled striker with tremendous movement, but he has been susceptible to takedowns. Moving up in weight could impact his striking power and make him even more vulnerable to takedowns. However, his movement allows him to be very accurate with his strikes and he can KO most with one clean punch.
