Demian Maia (19-6) steps into the octagon in his home country to face Ryan LaFlare on Saturday from the Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio. Maia is coming off a win last May, but he is just 1-2 in his last three bouts. Maia is one of the top jiu-jitsu competitors in all of MMA, but his striking is a bit lackluster. LaFlare is unbeaten and 4-0 in the UFC, but this is the biggest fight of his career thus far. He has shown an ability to grind out wins with his grappling, but that could be an issue in this fight.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, LaFlare is favored in this contest, as he is getting odds of -145 to win, while Maia has been given a money line of +115 to prevail. This fight is the main event of UFC Fight Night, which will be held from Maracanazinho Gymnasium. The event will air live on Fox Sports 1 at 10PM ET.

Bet on UFC Fight Night Odds

Maia has been a handful since moving from 185 points to 170 pounds. His size allows him to smother opponents and use his strength to get the fight to the ground where he uses his jiu-jitsu to control opponents. LaFlare could be the strong of the two fighters in this case, though. He is likely to try and out-wrestle Maia, but bringing the fight to the ground could open him up to submissions.
