The fight started almost identical to their last fight, with Maynard pummeling Edgar to a near stoppage. However, the champion once again survived and regrouped in the second round, where he started to pepper Maynard with straights and hooks. By the fourth round, a big hook landed that sent Maynard crashing and Edgar followed up with a series of clean shots that left Maynard face down in the mat and allowed Edgar to retain his UFC Lightweight Championship.
According to oddsmakers, Edgar had odds of -150 to win this contest, meaning a wager of $150 will pay out an additional $100.
