Penn took the opening round of the fight as he started fast, as he usually does. Penn used his grappling to better Diaz, but Diaz responded by winning the next two rounds with dominant boxing. He busted up and bruised Penn for the final 10 minutes to clearly earn a unanimous decision on the scorecards of all three judges.
According to oddsmakers, Diaz was a slight underdog in the bout with a money line of -105. That means a $105 wager on Diaz will pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, heavyweight Cheick Kongo pulled off a mild upset, beating Matt Mitrione by decision. The two had a rather lackluster fight as both fighters seemed tentative to push the action. However, Kongo landed more strikes in the early rounds and used a few takedowns in the third to get the win over Mitrione. Kongo had a money line of +110 to win, meaning a $100 wager on Kongo will pay out an additional $110.
