UFC 139 takes place Saturday night and the main card will air live on Pay-Per-View at 9PM ET. There will be two prelim fights that will air live on Spike TV at 8PM ET and the rest will stream live on Facebook. The event takes place from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Califorinia.
The main event of Saturday’s card features former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua taking on the last Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, Dan Henderson. Oddsmakers have Rua as a slight favorite with odds of -145, while Henderson has a money line of +115. Both of these men held championships in Pride during its glory days, but the two never faced off. Henderson (28-8) does hold a win over Rua’s brother, Murilo. Henderson is a winner of three straight, including a knockout of Fedor Emelianenko in his final fight with Strikeforce. Rua (20-5) is coming off a first round KO of Forrest Griffin after losing the UFC title to Jon Jones back in March. Both men are powerful strikers and on the ground, Henderson is more of a grappler while Rua is a submission fighter. Look for both men to look to tee off with strikes in this fight and the man to take a punch better will likely score a KO.
In the co-main event, middleweights will square off with another Pride legend, Wanderlei Silva (33-11-1) will take on another former Strikeforce champion, Cung Le (7-1) in his UFC debut. Le comes into the contest as the favorite with a money line of -160, while Silva has odds of +130. Le is a martial arts specialist and has done a number of karate films in his career. He hasn’t competed since June of 2010 and holds wins over the likes of Scott Smith and Frank Shamrock. His kicks are devastating and he has never had a fight go the distance. Silva has lost three of his last four and five of his last seven, but he is a fan favorite for his aggressive fighting style. Silva has struggled as of late with his chin, as he has been knocked out cold in four of his last seven losses. However, fighters have tended to struggle in their UFC debut, so that could work in Silva’s favor.
