Jones defended his UFC light heavyweight championship against Machida on Saturday and after struggling in the first round to deal with Machida’s speed, Jones regrouped and finished the fight in the second round. It started with a takedown from the clinch for Jones and then he hit Machida with an elbow that opened up a big gash on the forehead of Machida. Shortly after that, Jones and Machida both threw swinging hooks, but Jones’ landed first and Machida fell to the ground. Jones took Machida’s neck and applied a modified guillotine and choked Machida unconscious to earn the victory.
According to oddsmakers, Jones had a money line of -550 to win Saturday’s bout, meaning a wager of $550 will pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, heavyweight Frank Mir had an impressive win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Mir was nearly KO’d during the first round as Nogueira landed a series of big strikes but Mir kept defending himself and eventually locked up his opponent in a kimura. Nogueira tried to roll out of the hold, but Mir held strong and as Nogueira refused to tap out, Mir broke his arm and forced a stoppage from the ref late in the first round. Mir had odds of -260 to win the fight, which means a $260 wager on Mir will pay out an additional $100.
