Dillashaw (11-2) was set to fight Renan Barao in a title rematch, but Barao fainted while cutting weight on Friday, forcing him to step out of the bout. Soto (15-3), who was making his UFC debut tonight, had to step in and fought hard, but was thoroughly outclassed by the champion. Dillashaw used great footwork and crisp striking to pick apart the challenger for five rounds before throwing together a combo with a head kick that finished Soto off. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Dillashaw was the overwhelming favorite to win, as he had odds of -1100 to win, which means a wager of $1,100 on him to win will pay out an additional $100.
The co-main event of Saturday’s event saw Tony Ferguson (16-3) pick up a split-decision win over Danny Castillo (17-7). The two had a competitive fight, but Ferguson was the more active fighter and did more overall damage. Castillo landed some takedowns throughout the bout, but did little with them. Ferguson arguably caused more damage off his back than Castillo did on top. Two of the three judges agreed and awarded the bout to Ferguson. Oddsmakers had Ferguson as a -260 favorite to win, which means a $260 wager on him will pay out an additional $100.
