Lawler vs. MacDonald Free Pick
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – In a rematch of a fight from over a year ago, will Robbie Lawler defeat Rory MacDonald again, or will we have a new champion at UFC 189?
View Real-Time Sports Betting Odds
Lawler (25-10) is the UFC Welterweight Champion and making his first title defense since he won the belt back in December. He has won his last three fights and owns a split decision win over MacDonald back in November of 2013. MacDonald (18-2) has won three fights since the loss to Lawler and he is looking to win the title for the first time, following in the footsteps of his teammate and protégé, Georges St. Pierre.
The latest odds according to the sportsbooks have MacDonald as the favorite to win the belt tonight, as he is getting odds of -175 to win, while Lawler has been given odds of +145 to defend his title. These two meet in the co-main event of UFC 189 tonight at 10PM ET on PPV, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
This fight is MacDonald’s to lose in our opinion. He is the more well-rounded fighter of the two, as he has great grappling and great striking. In his first fight with Lawler, he looked a little gun shy, he won’t be this time around. MacDonald, like St. Pierre, does a great job of avoiding getting hit. Look for Lawler to throw bombs early, but as the fight moves to the later rounds, MacDonald should be able to take control. I like MacDonald to come out with a submission victory in the fifth and final round.
UFC 189 FREE PICK: Rory MacDonald -175
