Johnson (22-2-1) has been the champion since September of 2012 and he is looking to defend his title for the seventh time. Dodson (17-6) is the clear No. 1 contender to the belt and riding a three-fight win streak. His last loss was actually to Johnson back on Jan. 26 of 2013 in a five-round decision. Both men bring tremendous speed to the cage. Dodson has a little more power to his striking, while Johnson mixes in grappling to his strikes.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Johnson is a -550 favorite to retain his belt tonight, while Dodson has been given odds of +400 to win. These two will meet in the main event of UFC 191 tonight from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight card airs live on PPV at 10PM ET.
This fight is intriguing and Dodson probably isn’t getting enough credit for being a legit threat to Johnson. The big key in this fight is conditioning. Both men push a tremendous pace, but Johnson seems to have the engine that Dodson doesn’t quite have. Johnson is accustomed to fighting five rounds while Dodson tired in the previous title fight as the bout went to the later rounds. If Dodson is unable to land that big punch in the early rounds, it’s tough to see him winning. Look for Johnson to wait out the early storm and turn up the heat in the second half of the fight, earning a late submission on a fatigued Dodson.
