According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Cruz, the current champion, is the favorite with odds of -450 to win. Faber, the challenger, is listed with odds of +325 to prevail. These two meet in the co-main event of UFC 199 on Saturday, which takes place from The Forum in Inglewood, California. UFC 199 airs live on PPV starting at 10PM ET.
Cruz (21-1) is the champion after regaining the belt in January with a split-decision win over T.J. Dillashaw. He had missed over two years of action due to a knee injury before returning to win the title he had to forfeit. Faber (33-8) is coming off a decision win over Frankie Saenz in December. These two have fought twice in their career Faber gave Cruz his only loss back in March of 2007 with a first-round submission. Cruz avenged that loss in July of 2011 with a unanimous decision win at UFC 132.
Cruz still has some questions due to the lingering knee injury. He didn’t quite look himself in his first fight back, yet he still managed to out-point a talented fighter in Dillawshaw, who many consider to be better than Faber. Faber likely knows this is his last chance at a title. He has lost his last six title fights and is just 2-3 in his last five, so he isn’t exactly the most credentialed to get this fight to begin with. Cruz should be the quicker fighter of the two because of his footwork and his longer reach should help in the exchanges. If Faber is to win, he likely has to mix in takedowns frequently, but getting Cruz down isn’t easy. Look for Cruz to do his usual stuff and find ways to out-point Faber and get the decision victory.
