UFC 237 Predictions
The UFC heads back to Brazil tonight with a championship on the line when UFC 237 takes place. Here’s some predictions for tonight’s PPV card.
UFC 237 will be held from Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The main card for the event will begin at 10PM ET and air live on PPV as part of ESPN+.
24001 Rose Namajunas vs. 24002 Jessica Andrade
The main event of tonight’s card has the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship on the line, as Rose Namajunas (8-3) defends her title against Jessica Andrade (19-6). According to the latest oddsmakers, Andrade is the favorite, as she is listed with odds of -140 to win. Namajunas, the champion, is listed with a money line of +120 to prevail. Namajunas is making her second title defense after beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk in two straight fights. Once by KO to win the title and another by five-round decision. Namajunas has great length and uses that for speedy striking and great grappling. She has been off for over a year, which could lead to some rust. Andrade has won her last three fights, including a first-round KO of Karolina Kowalkiewicz. She is a strong, compact fighter that can bully opponents. She also will have the crowd strongly behind her tonight. Despite that, I still am going with the champ. She has been overlooked over her last three fights and come through with great performances, getting better each time. Despite the long layoff, I expect Namajunas to come out hungry and focused. She stays calm in the cage and has outclassed her opponents. I think the pressure of fighting for the title in Brazil will cause Andrade to make some uncharacteristic mistakes. UFC 237 Prediction: Rose Namajunas +120
24005 Anderson Silva vs. 24006 Jared Cannonier
The co-main event of tonight’s card features the legendary UFC middleweight, Anderson Silva (34-9) taking on rising star Jared Cannonier (11-4). According to the latest oddsmakers, Cannonier is the favorite tonight. He is getting odds of -125 to win, while Silva is listed at +105 to prevail. Silva is just 1-5 with 1 no contest over his last seven fights. Still considered one of the all-time greats, Silva isn’t quite as explosive as he used to be and he hasn’t displayed his elusiveness that he had in his prime. Cannonier is just 2-3 in his last five bouts. He has been a bit all-or-nothing, winning by KO or losing by it. Very strong, Cannonier is explosive but also can fatigue as the fight prolongs. This is a big opportunity for him and I think the stage may be a little too big. The UFC wanted to see Silva get a chance to win in his home country and keep his career alive and well. I think they picked him in this fight for a reason, because they think his hand speed will catch Cannonier. I am going to take the legend to get another moment in the sun. UFC 237 Prediction: Anderson Silva +105
