Lesnar vs. Cormier Odds

The UFC is looking to put on a super-fight sometime in the next 12 months that will feature Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar. Who do oddsmakers like in this one?

This fight came to fruition following Cormier’s win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 a few weeks ago to become the UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champions. Following the victory, Lesnar came into the cage and the two had an altercation to set up a future bout. Lesnar has to enroll in USADA drug testing for six months before he can compete, which means this bout is likely not to happen until January, possibly Super Bowl weekend. According to the latest oddsmakers, Cormier is the favorite in this proposed bout, as he is getting -275 odds. Lesnar is listed with a money line of +215 to win.

Daniel Cormier is a two-division champion and getting set to hold maybe two more fights in his MMA career before retiring. He is 21-1 following his win over Miocic and has never lost at heavyweight. He moved down to light heavyweight while teammate Cain Velasquez was heavyweight champ and found success there. His only loss has been to Jon Jones, with the rematch being turned to a no contest after Jones failed a drug test. Cormier is an Olympic wrestler that likes to push the pace and grind out wins. He has been developing his striking, as shown by his second-round KO of Volkan Oezdemir and his first-round KO of Miocic.

Brock Lesnar hasn’t really had the type of career that would earn him an immediate title fight after a long time away, but he’s a freak of nature and a PPV draw. Lesnar is just 5-3 in his MMA career. His last fight was in July of 2016, which was a decision win over Mark Hunt, but it was changed to a no contest after Lesnar failed a drug test. Prior to that, he was soundly destroyed by Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. His last recorded victory was back in 2010 over Shane Carwin. Still, Lesnar is a former champ that holds wins over Frank Mir and Randy Couture. He is a huge man that is pretty light on his feet for his size. He has a strong wrestling background, but really seems to cower when he takes a big strike to the body or head. If he can’t score a takedown on Cormier, he is likely in for a long night.
