In Saturday’s main event, Evans earned a unanimous decision win over Davis to secure a title shot later in the year. Evans used his grappling to negate Davis’ takedown attempts and then peppered in some big right hands to control the contest. Evans then mixed in some takedowns of his own and advanced to dominant positions to earn the win on all three judges’ scorecards after five rounds. According to oddsmakers, Evans had odds of -170 to win the contest, meaning a wager of $170 on Evans will pay out an additional $100.
In the co-main event, Chael Sonnen squeaked out a decision win over Michael Bisping. Sonnen came in as the clear favorite to win, with a money line of -450, but the fight didn’t go too easily for him. Typically Sonnen has been able to impose his will on his opponents, but Bisping displayed some good takedown defense that made it difficult for Sonnen. Still, Sonnen displayed enough technique and skill to out-point Bisping on the cards, though you could argue two of the three rounds could have went the other way.
