Daytona, FL - Jimmie Johnson looks to make history in 2009 as the only driver ever to win four consecutive Sprint Cup Series Championships in a row.

The chances of that happening are good according to the oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com.

Johnson, who is only the second driver ever to win three top NASCAR Series Championships in a row is a 3/1 favorite to win the 2009 Sprint Cup Series Championship.

Twenty-three Sprint Cup Series drivers in all have odds to win the 2009 Sprint Cup Series Championship, which is listed by Sportsbook.com oddsmakers. A field wager containing the remaining contenders is also available which currently lists the payout as 30/1.

Carl Edwards will end 2009 just like he ended 2008 if the oddsmakers’ predictions are correct. Along with Kyle Busch, Edwards opens betting as 4/1 Sprint Cup Series Championship favorites behind Jimmie Johnson.

Rounding out the top five favorites to win the 2009 Sprint Cup title according to oddsmakers are Greg Biffle – Carl Edwards Roush Fenway teammate – and Jeff Gordon, who is Jimmie Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate. Both are listed at 10/1 odds to win.
