2010 NASCAR Brickyard 400 Picks & Predictions
After a week off, NASCAR gets back to business Sunday when they visit historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400, which is considered one of the most prestigious races on the schedule.
When handicapping Indianapolis, it’s important to remember that the only track similar to it is Pocono, so look for drivers who did well there a few weeks back when betting. A few other keys will be handling and fuel mileage, so look for those crew chiefs that can adapt and aren't afraid to gamble a little.
Jeff Gordon 8/1
In 16 races at Indy, Gordon has the second best average finish (8.6) and has only finished outside of the top-10 just three times. While Gordon hasn't won this year due to some bad breaks, we think the extra week off and wanting to become the first five-time winner here should get him his first victory of the season.
Tony Stewart 10/1
Tony Stewart has always been known as a slow starter, but with the addition of the spoiler to the COT car this has been one of his worst first half's ever. That said, after a few good races he and his team seem to have put it together. This is Stewart's home tack and one of his favorites with two wins in 11 starts and the best average finish of 8.5. We look for Stewart to begin his typical second half surge this week and contend for a win.
Live Longshot
Mark Martin 30/1
After last year’s success, Martin has really fallen off due to losing most of his team to Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the learning curve with the new spoiler. In his last seven races at Indianapolis, Martin has five top-10 finishes with an average finish of 6.5 in the COT car. Last year, he was one of the favorites but with his struggles this year, you get a very generous 30/1.
