2014 Indianapolis 500 Free Picks & Predictions

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TheSpread) – The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will get the green flag today at noon. Who do we see taking home the checkered flag?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Marco Andretti and Helio Castroneves are the favorites to win this race, as each has 13/2 odds to win. The other short odds are Juan Pablo Montoya (15/2) and Will Power (8/1).
Here are a few drivers to consider for this race:
Helio Castroneves 13/2
Castroneves is a steady driver to bet on as he is a three-time winner of the event and always seems to be in contention. Castroneves has a good starting position, beginning in fourth, so he won’t have to fight through traffic early in the race. With a field that is lacking in a clear front-runner, Castroneves’ experience at the track should be key.
Juan Pablo Montoya 15/2
Montoya won this race in his only appearance back in 2000, but his time competing on the track in other auto racing series, like NASCAR, should pay off today. Montoya will start 10th, so there will be some early jockeying for position, once he gets settled in, he should be one of the top cars to beat.
Ryan Briscoe 25/1
Briscoe is not among the favorites, but he is a driver that has attractive odds because of his history at the track. Briscoe has finished fifth in this race twice, the last time coming in 2012. His starting position is certainly not desirable, as he will begin 30th, but he has started back before and worked his way up to the front. If you are looking for a dark horse, Briscoe is your man.
