TALLADEGA, AL (ATS CONSULTANTS) – The Aaron’s 499 takes place from the fast track at Talladega this afternoon. Here are some picks for this race.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the favorite to win on Sunday, as he has 9/1 odds. Eight other drivers have been given 12/1 odds to win.
Here are our predictions for this weekend’s race.
Jeff Gordon 12/1
Gordon is the current Sprint Cup points leader despite not having a win in 2014. Gordon has seven top 10s on the year, which is tied for most of any driver. He is coming off a second-place finish in two of his last three races and seems primed to finally get to the winner’s circle. His worst finish this year is 13th, so you know he is going to be near the front at the end.
Denny Hamlin 12/1
Hamlin had a strong start to the season, winning the Sprint Unlimited and Budweiser Duel, then took second in the Daytona 500. All of these came on a fast track like Talladega. Hamlin is in need for a strong performance, as he sits 14th in the point standings right now. Hamlin has placed in the top 5 five times in his career at this track and Sunday seems like the right time for him to get another, or even a win.
Joey Logano 12/1
Logano is coming off a win last week, his second win of the season and second win in three races. Logano appears to be the hot driver right now and he comes on a track where he can work with teammate Brad Keselowski to get to the front of the track. He is looking for his first win at Talladega, but has five top 10s there in his career.
