Meijer Indy 300 From Kentucky Speedway
The IndyCar Racing League heads to Florence, Ky. this weekend for the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway and points leader Scott Dixon is the pre-race favorite.
Dixon opens as a 4/1 favorite to win Saturday’s event, according to odds makers from the online sports book Sports Interaction. Other drivers receiving short odds for the race are Ryan Briscoe (9/2), Helio Castroneves (9/2), and Dario Franchitti (5/1).
Dixon won the 2008 Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway and has three wins on the season. Dixon hasn’t finished outside the top five of his last seven IRL races, which has allowed him to hold a three-point lead over Franchitti in the standings.
Briscoe is third in the standings, 14 points out of the lead. His lone win of the year came on the opening race of the season, but Briscoe has been close to winning another checker flag, as he has finished second in five events in 2009.
Castroneves has been hot and cold all year, which has put him fourth in the standings. He has two wins to his credit on the year, including the Indy 500, but Castroneves also has five finishes outside the top five.
Franchitti has paved the way this season with three wins and eight top five finishes. Following a 15th place finish at Watkins Glen, Franchitti has responded with a top five and a victory in the two races since.
