Carfax 400 from Michigan International Speedway

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the track on Sunday, Aug. 16 for the Carfax 400 from Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.

Johnson is a 5/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING. Other short odds to win are Mark Martin (6/1), Carl Edwards (7/1), Jeff Gordon (7/1), Tony Stewart (7/1), and Kyle Busch (7/1).

Johnson has not won this event at MIS, but has been the most consistent driver as of late. Johnson has finished no worse than 13th in his last three races, putting him second in the Sprint Cup standings, 260 points behind Tony Stewart. Johnson has three wins on the season, which ranks third amongst all drivers.

Martin has won four events in 2009, which is tied for tops of any driver this year. Martin is also a three-time winner at this event, with his last victory coming in 1997. Martin has 11 top 10 finishes this year and sits 11th in the points standings.

Edwards is the defending champion at MIS, winning the 3M Performance 400 last year in Brooklyn. Edwards has not finished outside of the top 20 in his last 12 races and has six top five finishes.

Jeff Gordon was a 1998 winner at Michigan International Speedway and is coming off a DNF (did not finish) last Monday at Watkins Glen after getting in a wreck with Sam Hornish Jr. The wreck may have injured Gordon’s back, but he will race this weekend. Gordon has 15 top 10 finishes in 2009.

Stewart is cruising in the points standings and has 10-straight top 10 finishes, including a win on Monday at Watkins Glen for his fourth win of the season.

Busch is still sitting 13th in the points standings, just 58 points out of the 12th and final spot in the Chase for the Championship. Busch is coming off a fourth place finish on Monday and has three wins on the 2009 season.

The Carfax 400 will take place Sunday, Aug. 16 from Michigan International Speedway at 1 p.m. ET. For complete odds and track information on this year’s event, see below.
